Christmas traditions and custom
For Romanian people, winter holidays, especially the Christmas are real soul holidays.
The Christmas is also called the family’s holiday, it is the occasion when everybody gets together, parents, children and grandchildren share presents, they are happy to spend time together around the table, believing that if they appreciate treat rightfully there holidays, they will have a richer year.
One of the most spread Romanian custom is going from house to house to sing Christmas carols, a ritual composed of ceremonial text, dances and gestures. On Christmas Eve, groups of waits, traditionally dressed up, go from house to house and they wish the householders health, happiness, prosperity and all their wishes to come true next year.
The waits are waited in very clean and decorated houses and they receive from the householders: pretzels, fruit, nuts, twists or even money.Christmas carols can be heard, too, for example:,,The star rises up,, ,,Good morning on Santa’s Eve,,
Another Christmas custom of going to the goat is related to the increase of animals in herds pastors is a ritual that brings rich fruit in the coming year. This is usually a good opportunity to get in contact with carpets, vivid colors adorning the homes of householders and bring about new year wishes.
